Forum Description

Post  Josh Jones on Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:56 am

Welcome, everyone, and thank you for checking out the new forum! This forum is going to be set up in a fashion much more different than other formats with which you may be familiar. Please read the brief description below, and also the rules before registering any characters, and if you are interested, simply let an administrator know when you have registered a character, and we will be happy to activate him or her for you!

Before registering any characters you will be writing as, please take the time and register yourself first. For example, you will notice that the two administrators are “Josh Jones” and “Kelsey Ryan” This has been done for a reason, and every person who joins must have an account of their own before they begin registering characters. Also, when registering your true profile, please provide a real email address and not a fake one, like I know many people use when creating profiles for characters (I'm guilty of it, too!). This will ensure that if I need to send any mass notifications, I can do so via email.

The reason it is being set up this way is because many people who write only write FanFiction pieces, and many times they simply write using characters J.K. Rowling has already created and developed; that is to say, they only use the canon characters as the protagonists of their writing. As you will see, canon characters will be open for everyone to use in the “Alternate & FanFiction” forum.

CHARACTERS

The way the characterization will work is thus: All canon characters are available for everyone to use only in the forum entitled “Alternate Verses & FanFiction.” Therefore, every canon character will have a communal password if someone would like to use that character in some alternate verse or in a FanFiction they want to write. The list of passwords will be available in a thread for those who decide to join the forum. Again, only in the “Alternate Verses & FanFiction” section can anyone use any of the canon characters. There are many canon characters already registered on the forum, but if there is one you would like the Administration Team to register and activate, please post in the suggestion box, or send a private message to one of the Administrators.

In the role-playing section, the canon characters belong to one person, just as they would in a regular RPG website. For example, anyone can log in Sirius Black and write a FanFiction piece using his profile, but only “Josh J.” can log him into the forum and role-play as him.

Each of the forum’s writers may register as many original characters as they want, and in both the Alternates & FanFiction and the Canon RPG sections, those characters belong to them alone. For example, Sirius Black, as a canon character, can be written by anyone in the Alternates & FanFiction, but may only be written in the Canon RPG by “Josh J.,” but Emerson St. James may only be written as “Josh J.” in the Canon RPG and the Alternates & FanFiction.

I realize this may be confusing, so if there are any questions, please send a private message to one of the Administrators, or post in the questions section in the User Voice forum, and we can answer your questions.

THREADS

Many RPG websites break the Hogwarts School section into many categories and forums, but as you will notice if you join this forum, it is set up very simply. Therefore, in the title of each thread a person writes, the date and location, both as specific as possible, must be present and follow the format prescribed below.

DATE (DD/MONTH/YYYY): Location; “Thread Title”

So… for example: 26 January 2010: The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmead; “Love Stinks” and once the thread has been finished, the creator of the thread must put (DONE) at the end of the title by editing the first post of the thread:

26 January 2010: The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmead; “Love Stinks” (DONE)
…or…
8 April 1988: Quidditch Pitch; “You Make My Heart Soar” (DONE)

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Although special abilities have been allowed in other alternate Harry Potter RPG websites, it never seems to become very popular. This new idea will be encouraged in this forum as well. Many of us have ideas on special abilities from movies such as Twilight and the X-Men series, and this is exactly what we will permit in this forum. However, only original characters in the second generation and above will be permitted to have special abilities in the Canon RPG section.

If you would like to “test-drive” a special ability on a canon character such as Sirius Black, you may do so in the Alternates & FanFiction section.

There are many lists of special abilities that can be found online, such as Wikipedia or Google. If there is a special ability you would like your character to have, all you need to do is send a private message to an Administrator for permission. The reason for this is because each special ability may only be used once. For example , if Gabriel Black (an original character in the second generation) is pyrokinetic, nobody else in the second generation may be pyrokinetic, and only Gabriel Black’s descendents may continue to carry that ability in the family.

If there are any questions, do not hesitate to post in the questions section, or send a private message to an administrator.

Some helpful links to lists of superpowers are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_superpowers
http://www.superpowerlist.com/

I will use the list from Wikipedia; once a special ability has been used from that website, it may no longer be used. If a writer has a suggestion for a new ability, all they need to do is send a private message to "Josh Jones" and ask permission.
